Heterogenuous collections

Groningen museums

The four cultural heritage organisations of the Groningen casus wish to share their knowledge among other things through each other's websites. In this way the searchability of their own collection/knowledge is increased and access is provided to the (complementary) expertise of others.

For this means the local databases and reference structures of the four organisations are copied into RDF versions. After that, the reference structures and object descriptions can be linked so that a knowledge network is created.

For object descriptions Cidoc-crm modelling is used. In the Borgen-site also a very flexible description scheme is tested. In this scheme, different users can connect different sets of properties, in the form of object and context descritions, to "objects". Object descriptions are used for direct descriptions of objects, e.g. museum objects, buildings, documents, persons, etcetera. And context descriptions have to do with viewpoint-like descriptions, independant from specific objects, e.g. education, cultural history, ecology, tourism, etcetera.
